What do you like most about your job?
I love walking through a home and learning something about the families that live there. I love weaving their memories and voices using small details. I love the story-telling of great interior design. I love helping people fall in love with their homes all over again.
What questions do customers most commonly ask you? What's your answer?
'How much?'
A beautiful space should be an option for everyone and there will be a solution for every price range. Some may feel as though they only need help with creative direction while others will need complete coordination with all aspects of the design. A few will need a phased plan, adding details only when budget and time allows while most will prefer a complete install with all work completed within a certain time frame.
What advice do you have for clients looking to hire an interior designer?
Communication is so very important.
Be sure to hire a designer who is truly listening.
What makes a great designer?
In addition to formal training, a great eye and an innate sense of balance and flow, confidence and a willingness to 'take a chance' creatively are key to becoming a great designer.
How did you decide to get in your line of work?
I originally started out pursuing a degree in Architecture and discovered that I wanted more of a hands-on approach to designing for people. I enjoy the interaction and learning about what makes people happy and looking for ways to bring those elements into their homes.
What important information should buyers have thought through before seeking you out?
Clients should have a good idea of what their rooms will feel like and how they need it to function. They should also have good examples of what they love and what they don't like about their homes.
